Korean beauty products are all the rage these days. Prepping for my winter skin care regime, I was at Sephora looking for a moisturizer that would keep my skin hydrated through the winter. The heating in my condo can dry out my skin and make it look dull and tired.
I came across the Laneige line. I think this is a more recent addition to the skin care lines that Sephora carries.
So what’s the story behind Laneige? Their products contain skin-perfecting mineral water. I am not exactly sure what skin-perfecting means, but hey, it sounds good, and is enough to entice me. The skin-perfecting mineral water in their products is designed to hydrate, protect and revitalize the skin. Their products tend to be focused on those of us that suffer from dry skin, so if you have oily skin this kit is probably not what you are looking for.
So now that we know a little about the brand, let’s talk about the Laneige Hydration Kit. The kit is excellent value at $38.00 CDN. It contains a cleanser, a toner, a balancing emulsion, a serum, a moisture cream and a sleeping mask.
The Multi Cleanser is a cream cleanser. It has papaya in it and has a slight grainy texture (beads) which is good for light exfoliation. It smells fantastic and honestly, every time I wash my face with it, my skin feels soft and not parched. I wear foundation almost everyday and it removes my foundation pretty well. Overall, I love this cleanser and once I run out of the trial size in here, I will be getting the full size cleanser.
Next is the Power Essential Skin Toner – this contains sugar cane in it. Yes, sugar cane! As far as toners are concerned, I have no complaints and no rave reviews either. It does its job, doesn’t dry the face, so I like it.
The Balancing Emulsion – this one troubles me a bit. I am not sure what to use this for or when to use it as part of my skincare routine. It is described as a lotion, so I am not sure if this is for the face or body. I am sure it is for the face, but I honestly haven’t used it much. The packaging isn’t the greatest and I find it hard to get the product out of the bottle.
The Water Bank Serum – Ok, so I love this. I haven’t really used serums before. But if this is what they are all like, I am jumping on this bandwagon! The Water Bank Serum contains moisture maximizing minerals and provides 24-hour hydration. The serum moisturizes my skin, without it feeling heavy. It is light, absorbs quickly into the skin and provides an excellent base for makeup. My skin is left feeling supple and I keep touching my face because it feels like silk! My sample size has lasted me for almost two months now, so clearly a little of this serum goes a loooong way! Absolutely love it!
The Water Bank Moisture Cream – this is your daily moisturizer. Honestly, this product says what it does. It keeps you hydrated all day long. Again, if you are on the oily side, this isn’t for you. For all you dry skin types, this is what your parched skin has been looking for all along! Moisture, moisture, moisture! The product contains mineral water and minerals to maintain hydration levels. A little goes a long way as well. There is also a gel version of this if you find this moisturizer too thick.
Water Sleeping Mask – This is one of the brand’s more popular products. It is a mask you put on clean skin, and leave it on overnight. It has a serum consistency. I use it once or twice a week and it feels nice on the skin, and does leave my skin feeling moisturized in the morning. The mask not only moisturizes, but it is also supposed to exfoliate and brighten skin. Overall, I am very pleased with the mask. Again, a little goes a long way with these products and I am still not out of the sample size in the kit.
My overall impression of this line: a great line of products for dry skin! The products do what they say. If you are interested in trying out this product, start with the Laneige Hydration Trial Kit. It is excellent value and you will get to sample the products. My favourites are probably the Multi Cleanser, the Water Bank Moisture Cream, and the Water Bank Serum.
